The area of the River Tay around the Tummel/Tay confluence has always been a great salmon fishing area to target as many salmon hold up here each year. This is the Meetings Pool where the River Tummel enters the Tay which is one such middle Tay salmon fishing hot spot near Dunkeld.

Here's a lovely Summer caught salmon from the River Tay in Perthshire. These salmon start to colour up around the flanks and gill plates once they've been back in the river for a month or two as you can see here. Note the fish friendly fine meshed landing net bag to protect the fish through the landing stage.

Look at the perfect deep & well built proportions of this fine Spring fish which was caught on the fly during the Spring month of May on the River Tay in Scotland. These Spring fresh run salmon are truly in a class of their own.

When you hook and land a salmon in Scotland get straight back into the salmon salmon lie as there's always a chance of a quick double when running fish have briefly stopped. This perfect salmon was the 2nd fish this fly fisher caught in 20 minutes of doing exactly what I've just stated on the River Tay near Pitlochry.
